Patience, persistence and trust – a coaching point from Coach Bill Leach

Patience, persistence and trust will support your navigation through the challenges imposed by our sustained cold, wintry weather.

  • Patience with unavoidable conditions – it is what it is!
  • Persistence with your training – just complete your plan one day at a time.
  • Trust that conditions will improve and that your patience, persistence and trust will reward you with fitness needed to take full advantage of spring and summer running.
Health & Nutrition Tip – an archived pearl of nutritional wisdom from David W. Grotto, RD, LD, CLL

Q: What activity, besides running, brings intense pleasure to both men and women and may have similar benefits?

A: Ah…I know what you were thinking of, but the answer I was going for was laughter!  Ironically, a good sense of humor has been found to be the number one romantic trait in both men and women.  Laughter not only feels good it has therapeutic benefits as well.  Here are a few examples:

  • Improves immune function – increase T-cell and NK activity
  • Vibrating muscles give internal massage
  • Great cardio-vascular effects – reduces inflammatory markers and protects arteries
  • Relieves stress, discharges physical and emotional tension
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Improves mood
  • Reduces pain
  • Mirthful laughter may produce similar results of intense aerobic exercise

We like to laugh socially.  Those who laugh out loud are more creative problem solvers.  Those who laugh together may work better together.  Laughter enhances learning.  Humor and laughter can be effective self-care tools to cope with stress.  Start laughing today!
