A POST BOSTON CELEBRATION!!

Coaching Tip from Coach Leach:

Recovery is the most important component of any training program – examples of strategies for recovery include:

Ø       Alternating training intensity daily – high one day and low or moderate the next

Ø       Alternating monthly training intensity – 1 week of moderate or low levels of training for every 2 – 3 weeks of high intensity training

Ø       Using Cross Training regularly

Ø       Taking a 2 – 6 weeks “Active Rest” following 2 or more months of high intensity training – “Active Rest” for runners involves –

Þ      Overall reduced activity

Þ      No structured running training – only casual, minimal running

Þ      Alternative activities, such as refreshing Cross Training

 Nutritional Tips by Kris Anderson

Hippocrates once said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Good nutrition can enhance your performance and ensure you are getting the maximum healthful benefits from your physical activity.

Poor nutrition can turn your exercise program or athletic endeavors into a significant health negative, contributing to sub-optimal performance, injuries and aging.

Over time, a poor diet not only diminishes your physical performance but also increases your odds of developing some type of degenerative disease like heart disease or cancer.

§         Sad news to report:  Janice Hufford, a veteran of many Peak Performance Training sessions and a tireless volunteer for running and sailing events for many years in Chicago passed away in March.  The running community in Chicago has lost a special friend.   We will miss her seemingly endless passion for running and life – the running path of Lincoln Park will miss her.

Ø        Well wishes to Chuck Aron for a speedy and complete recovery from recent surgery – we look forward to seeing Chuck on the running path soon!

Please report your race results, including notes – P.R.’s, etc. –e-mail bill@coachleach.com
