“Listen To Your Body” by Kris Andersen, Part II

Nutrition and Exercise are both important components of a healthy lifestyle, yet too little thought is given to the inter-relationship between the two.

Watch for the following early warning signs that you’re not getting sufficient nutrition to match your level of physical activity:

Ø       Changes in your sleep patterns, especially insomnia

Ø       Impaired mental acuity and performance or an inability to concentrate

Ø       An increase in your resting heart rate by more than 10 beats per minute early in the morning.

Ø       Sluggishness that persists for more than 24 hours after workouts

Part III on the relationship between nutrition and exercise will follow in next week’s newsletter.

Coaching Tip From Coach Leach:   Get your Spring Swing!

Improve your running by swinging your arms vigorously to the back –

  • During the back-swing of your arms:

Ø       Drive your elbow well behind your back

Ø       Create a “Triangle of Daylight” for anyone looking at you from the side during your back arm swing

Ø       Drag your thumb along the top of the side of your hip with each back arm swing

  • During the forward swing of your arms

Ø       Bring your hand forward along the contour of the front of your torso to the center-line of your body

Ø       Do not bring your hands more than a few inches in front of your hips and torso

Ø       Do not cross the midline of the body
