That COLD Winter Air – by Coach Bill Leach

Do you find yourself short of breath for the first 5 – 10 minutes of cold weather running?   This is very normal – actually the result of the cold air going down your trachea (breathing tube).  You can moderate the influence of the cold air by:

  • Starting out each run slowly
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a fabric that offers a pocket of air that will warm the colder incoming air for the first part of your run.
  • Aggressively force the outbreath portion of your breathing at the beginning of your run.
  • Increase your pace only after you feel warmed-up.

Master’s Cross Country National Championships Update – Emily Macdonald, Judith Neafsey and Kitty Monahan will be representing “The Chicago Lakefront Track Club” in the Masters competition, of the 2005 USA Cross Country Championships, on February 12, 2005, at Vancouver Washington, – updates and results will follow.
